A Perfect Contradiction: Album Reviews

Thought I would compile a list of reviews of A Perfect Contradiction for those interested in reading them.

"Say goodbye to the 'skip' button and listen to 'A Perfect Contradiction' non-stop! One of the best albums of the year!" - MusiCourt [x]

"Paloma belongs in a luscious lounge while dozens of guests sit back and bathe in the pleasant, unique tones, drinking martinis and getting utterly off their trollies. She's 1930s glam, completely likeable and utterly fascinating, with vulnerable twangs to a powerful and intense voice that wraps you up in soft cotton and keeps you warm from beginning to end. Three albums in and I'm still not bored and she continues to prove that she's deserving of much more attention and air play than she seems to get. Paloma is clearly doing something right, and those choosing to ignore her need to take note." - Female First [x]

"A Perfect Contradiction is a complete gem, which will sparkle in your collection for years to come. It's an album which has the ability to make everyone sit up and take notice (plus have a dance). I don't even have to hesitate, when I confess without a doubt it will not be leaving my CD player for weeks. Congratulations Paloma - you've done it again."  - Fans of Paloma [x]

"A Perfect Contradiction; it brings out a funky, soul vibe I can see this album being played at a roller disco, it has a full-on 80's feel to it, flares, jumpsuits and all included. The album is a mixture of emotions with themes such as heart break contrasted by Beyonce-esque strength independence" - North East Music Monthly [x]

"A Perfect Contradiction should not be judged on first impressions - let it's impact grow on you slowly" - Themusic.com.au [x]

"Faith's textured and throaty voice is still as powerful as ever" - The Guardian [x]

"Not many artists, but one, are able to teleport their listeners onto a 1930's lounge show where pain and heartbreak is effortlessly crooned and cheered on by an orchestra assuring the likeability of fans of contemporary pop and traditional jazz. A Perfect Contradiction not only emphasises on the ache of past lovers but also is encouraging her audience to party like it's New Years Eve." - ACamposStory [x]

"An album more fun than anything she's done before. A horn-packed anthem that every radio programmer must recognise as a genuine smash." - London Evening Standard [x]

"THE queen of British soul and pop is back with a bang with her third album, A Perfect Contradiction." - The Journal [x]

"Her punchy, uplifting set of pastiche sixties and seventies soul, r'n'b and disco is perfectly pitched with just an appealing hint of exaggeration."  - The Telegraph [x]

"Every sanguine note is like a coiled cobra ready to strike out and bite you pleasantly till you submit to her whim. The cobra is soothed by the beauty within and the words of a woman who understands both great style and the substance needed to carry it off." - Liverpool Sound and Vision [x]

"Three albums in, this east London girl still knows how to stand out from the crowd." -
Lincolnshire Echo [x]

"It's good to hear something successful, well produced and well executed. The songs that make up A Perfect Contradiction involve a multitude of feelings."  - Raphael Saddiq and Soul [x]

"Paloma proves she doesn't have to write on a track to make it fantastic - Diane Warren, the ballade extraordinaire, penned 'Only Love can Hurt like this' and it ends up being the most gorgeous moment on the record. A full production, sounding aptly grand, is layered with Paloma's passionate vocals- shifting from an introverted delivery on the verse into a higher register that takes the song to soaring point and underlines it's status as album highlight and potential future single." - The Sonic Reverie [x]

"The sort of thing you'd blast through a stereo at a summer barbecue: relaxed enough to act as background music, but energetic enough to kick any party off to a start. This may just be the best album Paloma Faith has ever produced. It's truly remarkable." - Soundcheck [x]

"With A Perfect Contradiction, Paloma has matured lyrically and vocally and the album is filled with love, lust, want, need and desire; spilled out over glorious grooves, superb vocals, slick but not over polished productions and some of her most danceable jams yet!" - Alt Sounds [x]

"The record grows into an intricately meshed paradox of emotions where bright melodies and gleeful harmonies jar pleasantly with morose lyrics." The Upcoming [x]
ith A Perfect Contradiction Paloma has matured lyrically and vocally and the album is filled with love, lust, want, need and desire; spilled out over glorious grooves, superb vocals, slick but not over polished production and some of her most danceable jams yet!

A Perfect Contradiction

OK It's OFFICIAL.

I state this, as if I didn't know I was going to love 'A Perfect Contradiction'. Which is a lie. The truth is, I've been eagerly anticipating it's arrival for weeks, I can't stop singing the new songs out loud on the bus and ever since I heard the track previews on iTunes I have found literally any excuse to play them, along with 'Can't Rely on You' as much as possible over the reception speakers at work. It's safe to say I have definitely developed a huge music crush on 'A Perfect Contradiction'.

That was until I had listened to it in its entirety this evening. I can now officially say that this is no longer a crush I am experiencing, it's a full blown love affair - I am besotted. There really is something for everyone on this album; it's soulful, it's upbeat and it's the kind of the album that will brighten up your day, no matter if it's a Monday morning or pouring with rain outside. More than anything it just makes you want to get up and have a dance. I knew this album was going to be something extra special and I was not wrong. Paloma herself has never sounded better; you can see throughout just how much she really has grown as an artist and despite a lot of people's initial doubts about the new direction she confirmed she was heading in, it works beautifully.

As much as I loved and will always love 'Do you Want the Truth or Something Beautiful' and 'Fall to Grace'. I really feel that Paloma has outdone herself with this album. 'A Perfect Contradiction' is a complete gem, which will sparkle in your collection for years to come. It's an album which has the ability to make everyone sit up and take notice (plus have a dance). I don't even have to hesitate, when I confess without a doubt it will not be leaving my CD player for weeks. Congratulations Paloma - you've done it again.

Where's Paloma?! 2014.

Following on from the last two years, I decided to put together another 'Where's Paloma' blog for 2014! As before, this should tell you where Paloma will be appearing/performing next! I've organised it under headings, so it should make it easier to find what you're looking for. Also if you click on the name of the performance you're interested in, it should take you to the web page associated with that performance (where the link is available), where you will be able to find more information.

I only list what I find, or what is announced by PFHQ so as such, performances and appearances may be subject to change, or may not be listed if I don't know about them. However, I aim to keep this blog as up to date as possible - and will add any further confirmed dates, changed times/dates as and when so please do check back for further updates!

Also remember to keep a look out on the fan page - because I will usually post an announcement when a performance/appearance is confirmed, as well as a little reminder on the day!
