Paloma Faith: Special Twitter Q&A Session.

Paloma took part in another very special question and answer session on Twitter this evening. The session was once again very popular with fans, so much so that #askpaloma became a trending topic in the UK and also worldwide at one stage. Unfortunately Paloma was unable to answer every single question she received. Below you can see the questions that she did answer.

Was there any specific inspiration behind Black & Blue? It's my favourite song from Fall to Grace.
Black & Blue was inspired by my observation that we are all equal no matter what walk of life we come from. Everyone feels pain and joy.

Do you have a fan mail address/PO Box so I can write you a letter?
People usually send fan mail to my record company (Sony) Which is in Derry Street London (you can google the exact address)

What does 'Fall to Grace' mean to you?
Fall to Grace is about turning tragedy in to hope. Allowing sad situations to make you stronger, I think it's romantic.

When will we know men and women have achieved true equality? What changes would you like to see in the world?
I would like to see on an international level: equal voices, equal pay, equal rights for men & women. We need to listen to each other.

How involved were you in creating the artwork for your new album? - Which is AMAZING by the way.
I was completely involved in every single part of creating this album from the song writing, to the artwork to the production.

Any new details regarding a tour?
I LOVE TOURING! I would like to tour the whole world on this record. UK, USA, Europe, South America, Japan, Asia, OZ and NZ. I still haven't got any concrete dates to announce yet for a tour though so watch this space!

What do you feel the main difference between 'Do you want the truth or something beautiful' and 'Fall to Grace' is?
I wrote Fall to Grace so recently that I feel more exposed and emotionally connected to the songs, they are sometimes sad for me to sing.

What are you feeling about 'Picking up the Pieces' being Number 7?
I am completely elated about being number 7. I have the most incredible fan base and am just so grateful! Hopefully the album will chart well this Sunday too!!!

Will you meet fans on the tour at the gates etc? I'd love to meet you in Ipswich! There's a few of us going to the show!
Yes I always try to come out after shows and meet as many fans as I can! It's so exciting!

What inspires you to be different?
I don't think I am different! I just feel inspired to be me and then everyone else tells me it's different!

Why not Africa or the Middle East?
My bad... I would also like to tour Africa and the Middle East.

Who influenced you most when creating the new album?
I was influence mainly by cinema on Fall to Grace. I wanted to write a soundtrack.

Which British Female Artist would you want to work with?
I would love to sing with Adele or Emeli Sande I think they are beautiful.

Your name is Spanish, do you have Spanish family? Can you speak Spanish?
Si hablo un poquito d'espanol por que mi padre es español! lo siento por que scrivo mala en español!!!

By 2020, what do you want to have achieved?
I would like to have my own children and be happy and laugh a lot!

What is the relevance of birds on both of your album artworks?
I love the grace of birds, the symbolic ideal of a lack of gravity or weight. It’s liberating! We carry too much weight on our shoulders

What's your most favourite song on the album?
It's too difficult to choose I love all of them because they are all very close to my heart.

And what about coming to Brazil? What do you think?

Falo un poquino de portoges tambain! GOD I AM TERRIBLE. I would love to come to Brazil!

Does your mother feel worried about you being famous?
Yes my mother is terrified about me being famous. She is worried I won't be able to stay the same and that I may be under attack!

What was it like going on to the Voice UK? What was your reaction when asked to do it?
I really enjoyed performing on the voice but I was so uber scared because it was in front of the coaches and it felt like an audition!

How does it feel to be Number 1 in the midweek album charts?
It feels amazing to be number 1 in the midweeks but I'm hoping I'll stay there. I'm so grateful to everyone who has bought it.

You're gorgeous and you make me want to do stuff, do you like doing stuff too?
That's good! Life is too short to sit on your haunches! We should all go out there and soak up what life has to offer! I'm restless.

If you could duet with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
Wow! I would love to sing with Edith Piaf.

Your view on Florence Welch from Florence & The Machine?
Florence is so inspiring and dynamic and beautiful to watch.

Will you promote Fall to Grace in the US?
YESSSSS! For the first time I will come to the US on this album and I am so utterly excited to come and visit!

Did you really not say much as a child until they made you be a dinosaur? Cutest story EVER.
Yes this is true! I was so shy until I learnt to ROAR!

What was the first and last song you wrote for the album?
The first song I wrote for this album was Agony and the last one I wrote was Freedom.

The awkward moment when Paloma Faith posts questions without answers and answers without questions for her #askpaloma
I am doing it but maybe my computer is slow and can't keep up! sorry.

What is your faith?
My "faith" is in LOVE.

Should I buy your album?
Yes you should buy my album before 10pm on Saturday!!! xxx

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My mum is my biggest inspiration. She worked hard to escape her background and always brought joy even when times were hard.

You see nowadays female singes pairing up with male rap stars for singles. Would you consider it and with who?
I would like to work with female rap start Azealia Banks.

If you were asked to star in one film made in the past, which would it be and why?
I would have liked to have played Christina Ricci's part in Buffalo 66 with Vincent Gallo. She's an odd character, so naive and loveable.

Why do you turn to wax in the 'Picking up the Pieces' video?
The 'other woman' in the video is mainly built up in my imagination. She isn't really what I think she is, so she melts.

Did you ever get bullied at school? If so, what did you do about it?
Yes I got bullied at school. I had braces and before that, wonky teeth.

¿Por que cantabas cucurrucucu Paloma?
aye aye aye cantava!

You are amazingly gorgeous and you have a soul full of song, I wish you the best in life. How do you feel now?
That's very kind of you to say... I feel nervous now, about the future ahead. I would like to sing for a long time to come!

Do you like Amy Winehouse?
I think Amy Winehouse was one of the most gifted musicians and songwriters of our generations, such a sad loss.

What is your biggest regret in life? Or do you not regret?
I try not to regret anything in life but I think I regret idolising some of the wrong men, it was foolish of me!

Your style is so quirky, you always look amazing! Anyone you see in the media and think wow!?
I think Gwen Stefani and Grace Jones always look incredible.

Can you please go back on 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks?!' you were hilarious on it last time!

I would LOVE to go back on never mind the buzzcocks! Let's start a campaign!

¿Cuándo vienes a España? Primero Madrid y luego Salamanca, de donde es tu padre. ¿Aún dices palabrotas en español?
Aura no se quando me voy pero quiero mucho!!

What is your favourite word in the English Dictionary?
My favourite word in the English dictionary is EFFERVESCENT.

What are the 'Streets of Glory'?
The Streets of Glory are the streets of heaven when you die.

Por qué eres tan perfecta? Te amo
Nunca persona eres tan perfecta! Soy incluido! pero muchas grazias.

Is there anything you've always wanted to do, but haven't yet had the opportunity/found the time?
I would like to travel the world and see it all! SO beautiful.

What do you love most about your fans?
I love my fans because they are loyal and because they make me feel like part of a big extended family.

I'm finished on  #askpaloma thank you all so much for all your questions. I feel so inspired by you all. The world is a great place today. THANKS.

Fall to Grace - The secret surprise!

For the last few months I've had a little idea whirling round and round my brain and now I can finally reveal it to all of you! As you know, 'Fall to Grace' was released yesterday and is Paloma's second album, her first release in 3 years!

In order to celebrate the release and to welcome 'Fall to Grace' to our music collections, I am proposing to create and put together a little (secret) surprise for Paloma from her fans! And I would love for you all to get involved.

All you need to do is...
  • Take a photo of yourself, with your copy of 'Fall to Grace' no matter how you've chosen to purchase it (even if this is on your PC or iPhone). Along with an optional message (no more than 40 words) of what you think of the album.
Then simply put this into an email titled 'Fall to Grace' (Please attach your photo to the email and write the message within the body of the email) and then send this, along with your full name to me at: FansofPaloma@gmail.com and I will do the rest!

Please note:
In order to give everyone who wants to take part the chance to, I will only be accepting one photo per person.
- However if you've purchased more than one item (for e.g. both versions of the album) and you want to include them both in your one photograph then that is completely fine.

The closing date for which all photos and messages must be submitted to me by is:

MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY 9TH JUNE 2012.

I will be revealing the surprise to Paloma and to all the other fans online in the near future! So keep your eyes peeled.

Where's Paloma?!

As you know 'Picking up the Pieces' is released as an official single today (please buy it!) and hot on its heels, is Paloma's new album 'Fall to Grace' which makes its debut on May 28th.

Much to our excitement, this means that there will be a lots more performances from Paloma - both on television, radio, festivals and once dates are released - the tour!!! So in order to make everything a little bit easier... I've decided to put this blog together which should tell you where Paloma will be appearing/performing next! I've organised it under headings, so it should make it easier to find what you are looking for. Also if you click the name of the performance you are interested in, it should take you to the web page associated with that performance, where you will be able to find more information.

I only list what I find or what is announced by PFHQ so as such, performances and appearances may be subject to change, or may not be listed if I don't know about them. However, I aim to keep this blog as up to date as possible - and will add any further confirmed dates, changed times/dates as and when. So please keep checking back for further updates!

Also remember to keep a look out on the fan page - because I will usually post an announcement when a performance/appearance is confirmed, as well as a little reminder on the day!

Picking up the Pieces Review.

Tomorrow marks a day that many Paloma fans have been counting down to for months, it is the date that 'Picking up the Pieces', the stunning new single from Paloma's forthcoming album 'Fall to Grace' (out May 28th) is released. Earlier last month, we were treated to a preview of the single on Paloma's YouTube channel, shortly followed by the exclusive premiere of the music video created to accompany it; where against a backdrop of grandeur with a beautiful cinematic feel, we encounter the main character's feelings and emotion of having been seemingly rejected by the man she loves for his former lover. As Paloma explains '
Picking up the Pieces is a song about the issues of being in a relationship with someone who is still recovering from a previous relationship'.

It seems that 'Picking up the Pieces' strikes a chord with the majority of listeners because it focuses on a situation that most people have experienced at some point in their life, whether this is from a first-hand experience or not. It is also the kind of song, which after the first few listens really gets into your head - behind the beautiful, uplifting and catchy backing of the track; you really witness the power and emotion evident in both Paloma's lyrics and vocals 'In her shadow is it me you see? Cos all that's left is you and I and I'm picking up the pieces she left behind'. All in all it makes for an honest but deliciously seductive track that most listeners should find hard to resist.
